OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) A controversial proposed development in North County did not get an administrative blessing.
Oceanside Planning Commission voted to not recommend ‘North River Farms.’
The planned residential mixed use project is trying to build 656 homes, a hotel and a town center on 176 acres of land in northeast Oceanside.
Dozens of residents spoke in opposition of the project in the more than 3-hour long section of the meeting dedicated to the matter.
People who opposed it say the project would further crowd the road infrastructure and also raised concerns over the proposed homes being built in an area that floods along with experiences wildfires.
Residents from the nearby Morro Hills area of Fallbrook were elated the planning commission voted no.
The company that is trying to develop NRF says they will be releasing a statement on the no vote on Tuesday.
This is the second time in five months the planning commission has voted to not recommend the project.
North River Farms will be presented to city council at a public hearing May 22.
